Day 30 - Share a link to either your NaNo profile or a location on the internet where your story can be found. If someone offered to beta read for you, would you be willing to do the same for them during the subsequent editing process?
Here’s a link to my NaNo Profile ^_^
The picture above explains my feelings on the thought of other people reading my novel the way it is right now : “Gerrrr, stay away from my novel! gerrrrrrr!”
Day 29 - Name one thing in which you indulged as a treat to keep yourself motivated and writing that you wouldn’t otherwise have done.
Actually I haven’t been doing any thing extra that I wouldn’t have normally have been doing. This is mostly due to my writing procrastination and not meeting my daily word quota till like 10PM at night.
What about anime, you ask? I normally shaft my writing responsibilities to watch my anime, so that doesn’t really count as something I “indulged as a treat to keep yourself motivated”. But I have been drinking a lot of tea. I don’t know about more than normal, but it is something I do indulged in to help motivate me to write ^_^
Day 27 - What’s your word count now? Are you satisfied with your progress or panicked that you won’t have enough time to finish by November 30?
My current word count is 53,778, which I am very happy with. ^_^
My goal for this year is 60,000 words, so I’m still not finished yet. But as far as the original NaNoWriMo challenge is concerned I’ve already reached the word count goal ^_^
This is mostly because I decided that I was going to write 2,000 words everyday, regardless of how much or little I wrote the day before. Plus 2,000 is a nice even number and if you multiple it by 30 it gives you exactly 60,000 words ^_^
Day 26 - Was any research involved (historical or otherwise) in your NaNo prep?
I spent a lot of time looking through the dares thread….. that’s really the only amount of ‘research’ I really did. Oh, and getting inspiration from random videos.
Day 25 - What are the names of at least two of your main characters? How did you choose their names?
The names of my main characters are Alicia and Lilly. I guess I choose Alicia for the main character because of it being a variant of Alice, and I think we all know who that’s referencing. I choose Lilly for the secondary main character since it goes along with her “pretty like a butterfly” (referencing the title Sadistic Butterfly) thing she has going on while being a crazy axe murderer. ok, she’s not really an axe murderer, she’s a shovel murderer ^_^
Day 24 - Is religion featured in your novel at all?
If so, which ones? If it’s/they’re your own creations, describe it/them and how it/they play(s) a part in your characters’ lives.
The answer is no, religion is not featured in my novel what-so-ever. So, N/A for the rest of the question.
Day 23 - Do animals play any part in your story? If so, how do they add to it?
Well, there were two talking cats in the beginning of the story, though they haven’t showed up since then. That’s actually the only time I’ve ever mentioned animals in this years story o_O”
So I’m going to say they play a very minimal roll in my story.
Day 22 - If you’ve participated in or won NaNo before, what happened to your other novel efforts? Still in the revision process/querying publishers/scrapped it immediately/etc.
2004 - Fake Wings - Won
I’ve attempted to re-write this thing so many times, and also I’ve incorporated elements of this story into later NaNo’s. This story is picked apart so much that I don’t think there is any hope for it…. Then again it was my first NaNoWriMo attempt and I came up with all the character, plot, etc. on the spot. Apparently I am not a pantser.
2005 - Lonely Road - Won
This one I actually did try outlining before hand. It went from being loosely related to my 2004 NaNo to being a full on prequel! There was this one character that I wanted to make a cameo in the book, and well…. he kind of took over the plot o_O”
As far as editing it goes… well…. I did print it out and even read about half of it…. then got sick of it and threw it out a window. Ok, I didn’t actually throw it out of a window, but I kind of wanted to…. Mostly because I had planned only enough for a short story, so there was A LOT of padding. I mean a lot. The characters watched SO much TV it wasn’t even funny…… so yeah, it was kind of an uneditable mess.
2006 - The Painful Bunny - Won
When I set out to write this novel my main goal was to have fun with it. So I tossed the outlining approach and decided to wing it with a loose outline. Unfortunately because of that I’m still uncertain what the story was about exactly…..
The basic premise of the story is centered around a small group of writers that were participating in NaNoWriMo while working at the Happy Bunny Cafe. I developed the character personality and interest before NaNo started and hopped that it would be enough to get me through the month but give me enough room to be creative. and well…. like I said, I still have no idea what the story was about o_O”
2007 - Twilight: Lost Princesses - Lost
This is the first year that I was working “off the grid” and had very little access to electricity to charge my laptop, which only had about a 48 minute battery life.
The story it’s self I found really interesting when I did go back to read it. So much so I started planning my own Visual Novel and even coded the first chapter in Ren’py. Unfortunately I’m not really very a talent drawer, so I never really got around to drawing the models and kind of dropped the project. Though I might pick it back up one day. Maybe o_O”
2008 - A Fish-Shaped Window - Lost
Another losing year because of the great lack of electricity ;_;
The story was sort of a mash-up of characters from my 2004 and 2006 novels, with the cast getting a complete overhaul. I turned one of the characters into some sort of ninja/assassin like person, that character that made a cameo in my 2005 novel was back and now the owner of a bar/cafe/restaurant thing. But That’s about as far as I got with writing. What did I do with this story idea? Well, see 2009’s blurb.
2009 - Memories Don’t Lie - Won
I was back in town for this year and had electricity again, so that helped a lot with actually finishing this novel.
The story itself was a sort of mash-up of my 2004 and 2006 story, pretty much the same idea as the year before but with a little more planning. The main characters were actually the main characters of my 2004 novel, though they had different names they were pretty much the same characters. Mister I’m-only-making-a-cameo was worked into the plot yet again, and took over said plot yet again….. That character has a way of doing that….. so I’ve banned him from ever stepping foot into another one of my novels ever again. (unless it’s a re-write, then that’s different)
The story itself was one giant mess…. pretty much I added too many characters and too many unrelated plots, making it into some sort of random story that had no consistency what-so-ever. Technically I never finished the story, being that I had planned 4 separate parts to the story and only wrote the first 2 parts…. so yeah o_O”
2010 - The (Caged Bird) Sings A Lonely Song At Twilight - Won
I actually did do a full on re-write of this story for Camp NaNo, though what I did was cut down on the cast size since I had, yet again, wrote too many characters into the original story. Also the Camp NaNo version went in a very different direction than this version of the story. For example, the MC’s sister dies somewhere in the middle of this version of the story, but in the Camp NaNo version she dose not die…. and in fact she was apparently more of an important character than I had originally thought.
SO, in a nutshell, I’m currently not planning on editing any of my older NaNoWriMo stories. I may edit the one I am currently writing for Camp NaNo, but I have a feeling that I’m going to want to move onto another project… like the Slender Man story that I want to write. ^_^
Day 21 - With about 10 days left to this arguably traumatic experience, what are your plans and goals for your novel, should you successfully complete it?
Well, since createspace isn’t offering free proof copies this year (just 5 free copies AFTER you approve the book for sale) I’m not really sure. It had only been the past two years that I finally took advantage of the free proof copy offer, and now createspace is being stupid about it ;_;
SO, I’m really not sure…. I might edit it, I might not. We’ll see….. But I’m starting to think that if I DO buy myself a proof of the book, I probably wont do it through createspace just because of how stupid they are being about the offer this year. I mean, seriously…. you have to approve your book for SALE, as in make it public with the ISBN and all, just to get your free copies. Plus, unless they changed it, you HAVE to get a proof copy before you can approve your book for sale….. so before you get anything from them you have to pay for the proof and shipping! >_<
Blah….. as you can tell I’m a bit peeved. I mean, I can understand them wanting to make money and possibly getting people to actually publish their book with them, but ARGH! It’s just annoying! >_<
ok, that kinda turned into a creatspace rant….. any way, back on subject:
I may consider re-writing this story for Camp NaNo, however I also have a couple of other story ideas that I really want to write for the next Camp NaNo. Like the idea of writing a Slender Man related story (instead of just having him make cameos all over the place). There’s this song called Slendy’s Watching Me that is probably the biggest inspiration for it. Also this comment on the video gave me a lot of really good ideas.
What if Slenderman is actually a really nice ghost and all the kids that have gone missing were actually subject to verbal and physical abuse from their parents and Slender man takes care of them in an alternate dimension where everything is better and watches over the kids that want to stay and tough it out against their mean parents. Also All the people that have supposedly died horribly by Slender man’s hand could have actually deserved it because they where mean people too… just a thought. - TobiTheNinjaKitten
Though I guess I went off topic again… opps.
So to answer the original question:
I have no freaking clue what I’m going to do with this story once I’m finished with it. I guess I’ll poke it with a stick and move on to the next project.
Day 20 - If you could meet one fictional character from any book you’ve ever read, who would it be, and why?
I don’t have any fictional characters that I would want to meet… no really, I don’t.
So… I guess n/a? o_O”
